When Can I Get Moving Again After Mommy Makeover?

Exercising After Mommy Makeover

Mommy makeover is a multi-step treatment that combines breast enhancement and body contouring procedures into a single operation. It is a potentially life changing treatment for women who want to restore their pre-baby bodies and are not seeing the results they want with diet and exercise alone.

Dr. Sanjiv Kayastha has helped many women reclaim their physique and self-confidence with mommy makeover. One question that comes up in many of his pre-op consultations with patients is, “When can I get moving again after mommy makeover?” Here’s what you need to know about exercising after your mommy makeover.

Plan to Take It Easy for the First Two Weeks

Immediately after surgery, your energy levels will be low and your mobility will be limited. Side effects including soreness, bruising and swelling are normal during the first one to two weeks after surgery.

It is very important that you do avoid vigorous activities, including exercise, during this initial recovery period. Health wise, exercising too soon and elevating the heart rate can lead to serious complications. Straining your body can also affect your cosmetic results.

Other than getting up every few hours to walk to the restroom or around the house, plan on getting plenty of bed rest for the first two weeks after mommy makeover. Give yourself permission to take it easy and do not your rush your recovery — your health and results depend on it!

Ease into Exercise

Sometime between three and six weeks after surgery, Dr. Kayastha may give you permission to resume exercise. Once he does so, you can ease back into your exercise routine. Exercise at a modified pace and pay close attention to how your body feels. If you feel something is too much too soon, ease off to reduce the risk of injury. You can gradually increase your activity level as you continue to heal. By easing into exercise, you can more confidently and comfortably embrace your new mommy makeover physique and maintain your results long term.
