Three Diet Mistakes You May be Making

Are you following a healthy diet but still having a hard time achieving the slim and fit physique you have always wanted? It may be possible that you are making one or several diet mistakes. Here, plastic surgeon Dr. Sanjiv Kayastha clears up three common diet mistakes that might be stopping you from reaching your goals.
Skipping Meals
If you think eating less meals means fewer calories, think again. Several studies have found that people who skip meals weigh more than those who don’t. This is especially true with people who skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast makes you very hungry by the time lunch comes around. This can easily cause you to overeat during lunch. A healthy breakfast containing protein (e.g., egg) and fiber (e.g., whole wheat toast) can help you stay full and satisfied until lunch.
It is recommended that you eat at least three meals a day. Or, try to split your meals into four or five smaller meals to satisfy your hunger throughout the day.
Forgetting to Drink Water
While drinking water alone can’t make you lose weight, not drinking enough of it can make you lose less weight. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day can boost your fat-burning capacity and help curb your appetite. What’s more, water keeps your muscles relaxed and prevents them from cramping up during exercise. Replace caloric drinks like sodas and juice with water. Give your taste buds an extra dose of flavor by adding lemon or fruit, like berries, to your water.
Ignoring Portion Control
Eating healthier doesn’t necessarily give you the license to eat more. While nuts are a healthier option than potato chips or cookies, they aren’t calorie free. Reading nutrition labels can help you better manage serving sizes. Managing your portions is important even when eating a salad. It’s easy to overload your salad with croutons, bacon bits and salad dressing, but these ingredients may be what are preventing you from flattening your stomach or slimming your thighs. Try adding lean protein, such as eggs or grilled chicken strips, to bulk up your salad.
