Choosing Between Breast Lift & Breast Augmentation

Breast Lift vs. Breast Augmentation

Breast lift and breast augmentation are both popular cosmetic procedures, but each offers slightly different benefits. Some patients may have a difficult time deciding which type of cosmetic surgery is the best choice for their goals.

In this post, Albany plastic surgeon Dr. Sanjiv Kayastha discusses how to choose between breast lift and breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is the preferred option for women seeking increased breast volume. This procedure can also be used to restore shape after a pregnancy or to even out asymmetrical breasts.

Breast augmentation may also reduce mild drooping caused by pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, a more significant sagging of the breasts may require a lift procedure.

There are several choices you will need to make with regard to your procedure, including the implant size, implant placement, and incision placement. Your plastic surgeon can explain these options to you during a consultation.

Breast Lift

Breast lift is used to correct sagging breasts and loose skin. The shape and position of the breasts can be restored to achieve a more youthful appearance.

However, breast lift does not change the volume of the breasts. This can only be done with breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation and Lift Combination Procedure

If you would like to both address sagging breasts and add extra volume, there is good news: breast augmentation can be safely combined with breast lift as part of a single operation, giving you the best of both worlds. A combination procedure offers several benefits:

  • Addresses all of your cosmetic concerns with one consultation and one procedure
  • Allows you to recover from both procedures at the same time
  • Requires less time off of work and other activities

The combo procedure can transform the size, shape and location of your breasts. This option is particularly popular among women who have had more than one pregnancy.

The combination procedure isn’t right for everyone, especially if you have any health problems. But for many patients, combining breast lift and augmentation into one procedure is an efficient way to meet several cosmetic goals at once.

Consult with your plastic surgeon to determine whether you should opt for breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination procedure.
