Botox®, Jeuveau & Xeomin Injections in Albany
Also Serving Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy
Our Albany plastic surgery office offers BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau to treat signs of aging in the facial region. Dr. Barach has found that both products provide effective results, and he makes both available to his patients.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau are injectable cosmetic enhancements that erase many of the natural signs of aging such as wrinkles in the forehead, nasal root, and crow’s feet areas. These frown lines can change a youthful appearance to one that looks tired or angry.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau can reduce and possibly even eliminate these frown lines for up to four months, as well prevent further deepening of lines in the future.
These injectables prevent the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles that cause frown lines. The injected muscles relax, allowing your skin to smooth itself. The injections take only 10 to 15 minutes and result in minimal pain. Within days, you will begin to see results as these persistent frown lines begin to melt away. Occasionally, fillers are needed in addition for particularly deep wrinkles.
Depending on your aesthetic goals, cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Bruce Barach may administer your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Jeuveau injections in the following locations:
- Near the outer region of the eyes (crow’s feet)
- In the forehead region
- Between the eyebrows (“elevens”)
The results of your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Jeuveau treatment will look completely natural. People are unlikely to comment that you “had work done,” but they are likely to comment that you look rested, refreshed, happy, or younger.
Xeomin is another botulinum toxin type A product that behaves similarly to Botox and Jeuveau. It is used to temporarily relax facial muscles and minimize frown lines between the eyebrows. It can also be used on crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Xeomin is comparable to Botox and Jeuveau in how quickly the results appear and how long they last. The key difference is that the manufacturers claim Xeomin does not contain any additives, so there may be less risk of a patient developing an antibody to the injectable that blocks its response.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox
How does Botox work?
Botox is injected into select treatment areas with a very thin needle. The neurotoxin temporarily relaxes the targeted facial muscles that contract to form expressions and dynamic wrinkles. Once the muscles relax, the overlying wrinkle smooths out and the treated skin looks softer.
Are there any alternatives to Botox?
Xeomin and Jeuveau provide wrinkle reducing effects similar to Botox.
What areas of the face can be treated with Botox?
Botox is commonly used to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the corners of the eyes and horizontal wrinkles across the forehead.
Are there any side effects of Botox treatment?
Botox, Jeuveau and Xeomin injections may cause mild swelling, bruising, redness or tenderness in the treated areas. These aftereffects usually subside within a few days.
Does Botox treatment hurt?
No, Botox treatment is not considered painful. Some patients feel slight pricks or pinches during the injections.
Do I need anesthesia for Botox treatment?
No, anesthesia is not needed for Botox treatment. If you are concerned about pain during the injections, inquire about the use of a topical numbing cream.
Is Botox safe?
Yes, neurotoxins have been safely used for wrinkle reduction for many years. Botox, Jeuveau and Xeomin are all FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of certain facial wrinkles.
Can I get Botox in multiple areas during the same appointment?
Yes, it is possible to get Botox, Jeuveau or Xeomin injections in multiple areas, such as the forehead and corners of the eyes, during the same appointment.
What is the difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox is used to temporarily relax the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles; dermal fillers plump up or “fill in” larger facial creases and folds. Fillers can also be used to add volume to areas such as the lips, cheeks and temples, which commonly lose volume and smoothness with age. In general, the results of dermal filler treatment last longer than the results of Botox treatment.
Should I do anything to prepare for Botox treatment?
Make sure your provider has a list of all medications, vitamins and supplements you take. You will be asked to stop taking anything that has a blood thinning effect about a week prior to your treatment. You should also avoid consuming excessive alcohol as you prepare for your injections.
Will I look unnatural after my Botox treatment?
The skill of your injector will influence the type of results you see. As long as you work with an experienced, trained provider who understands your goals, the chances of looking unnatural and overdone after your injections are minimal.
How long do the results of Botox injections usually last?
The results of Botox injections typically last three to six months. Repeat treatments at regular intervals can help prolong the effects of Botox.
Is Botox only for women?
Men and women can benefit from injectables treatment with Botox, Jeuveau or Xeomin. Many of our patients are men who want to subtly minimize noticeable forehead wrinkles or creases around the eyes.
Can Botox be used for the lips?
For younger people a very few units can be used to create a “lip flip” which can create a subtle eversion of the upper lip. For older people it can sometimes diminish smokers lines.
