Nose Irregularities
Albany, Schenectady & Saratoga Springs Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, has been effective in treating a wide variety of issues relating to the appearance and functionality of the nose. Here are a few of the conditions that can be helped with rhinoplasty.
Large Nose
One of the most common issues addressed by rhinoplasty, a large nose can be reduced in size by removing bone and cartilage. The nasal skin “shrinks” to fit the new size of the nose.
Too Large, Too Round or Too Square Nasal Tip
Another frequent problem, fullness in the nasal tip, is usually caused by too much cartilage. Schenectady cosmetic surgeon Dr. Bruce Barach can perform a nasal tip and nostril reconstruction that will remove this excess cartilage to make the tip look smaller and more perfectly shaped.
Undefined Nasal Tip
A truly beautiful nose has a well-defined tip. To correct an under-defined nose, Dr. Barach can reshape the cartilage of the nose tip or lower the rest of the nose. In some cases, ear cartilage can be used and grafted onto the nose tip. In cases where the skin of the nasal tip is very thick, the amount of improvement expected can be somewhat limited.
Wide Nose
A broad upper part of the nose can be thinned by removing bone at the cheek level. A nose that is too wide in the nostril area can be narrowed by taking a small piece out of the outer base of each nostril.
Crooked Nose
The type of correction needed for a crooked nose depends a great deal on the cause of the problem, which is not always completely evident. In some cases, repositioning misaligned bones can solve the issue. In other cases, cartilage grafting or reshaping of the septum (the cartilage that divides the nasal chambers) is needed.
Nose Bump
Bumps on the bony part of the nose (the bridge) can often be filed down and reshaped.
“Ski-Jump” or “Saddle” Nose
This condition often looks like the middle of the nose bridge is sloped or caved in. It can be corrected by adding additional cartilage or bone graft material.
Other conditions that can be helped with rhinoplasty include:
- Too-narrow nostril area
- Too-thick nostril rim
- “Hanging” nose tip
- Area between nostrils hangs down or retracts
- Deviated septum
