Fraxel laser treatment inspires your skin to rejuvenate itself. In the Fraxel process, a microscopically pinpointed laser is used to create “thousands of micro-thermal treatment zones in the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact.” These tiny wounds heal quickly, so that aged, damaged, or discolored cells are replaced with new, healthy-looking ones. Fraxel laser treatment can be used to address numerous skin problems that, in the past, could only be treated using more invasive modalities with considerable downtime. Fraxel treatment can be used to correct:

• Skin coloration issues such as melasma, hypo- and hyperpigmentation
• Age spots, sun spots, uneven pigmentation (on the hands, neck, and chest as well as  the face)
• Superficial and moderate wrinkles
• Coarse skin texture
• Large pores
• Scarring

Because Fraxel laser treatments also induce the body to produce new collagen, it can be used to improve the appearance of acne scars, as well as scars from surgery or injury.

Fraxel laser treatments take about 20 to 25 minutes for a full-face treatment. Anesthetic ointment is used to prevent discomfort, so most patients describe the treatment as having a prickling sensation. After treatment, the skin may feel like it was sunburned, and it will be slightly swollen and red for a day or two. You may experience some very minor skin flaking in treated areas. Effective treatment requires four to six sessions spaced about three to four weeks apart.
