Neck Lift in Albany
Also Serving Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy
Sagging skin and excess fat in the neck region can make you look much older than you actually are. If you would like to reverse the signs of aging in this region, a neck lift can have dramatic results on your overall appearance. The procedure can improve the shape and balance of your face, restoring definition to your neck and jaw line for a more youthful, healthier look.
Am I a Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Ideal neck lift candidates have good skin elasticity, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. A neck lift can effectively accomplish the following aesthetic goals:
- Eliminate loose, sagging skin in the neck region, including “Turkey Gobbler” platysma muscle bands
- Reduce the appearance of jowls
- Restore your skin to a more youthful condition
- Get rid of fat accumulations in the neck region
- Give the impression of weight loss or recontour loose neck skin after actual weight loss
Your Neck Lift Procedure
Your neck lift will be performed in the hospital operating room under local or general anesthesia. The procedure should take approximately two to three hours to complete. Albany plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Barach will make an incision behind the ears and underneath your chin. Excess fat will be directly removed, or removed using liposuction. Loose, sagging skin is removed and muscles in the region are tightened to achieve your desired aesthetic goals.
You will need to wear a compression garment for approximately one week following your procedure to facilitate the healing process. You should expect to experience some swelling and bruising which will gradually subside over the next two weeks. The inconspicuously located scars will fade, soften, and settle over a period of several months.
Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Lift
How can I prepare for neck lift?
Dr. Barach provides complete pre-op instructions that include a list of medications, vitamins and supplements to avoid in the days and weeks leading up to the operation. He can also advise of other precautions to take prior to surgery, such as undergoing any necessary lab work or blood work.
Does neck lift leave a scar?
The incisions for neck lift are placed very carefully so that any scarring is hidden discreetly underneath the chin. No one will be able to identify your scar unless they are looking closely under your chin.
Is there a perfect age for neck lift?
No. Most patients are in their 40s or 50s. When Dr. Barach evaluates you for neck lift, his primary concern is your health, not how old you are. As long as you are healthy and your medical history does not raise the risk of complications during or after neck lift, you may be a good candidate for neck lift.
When can I see results?
Although it will take some time for your neck to heal, you should see an immediate improvement in the tone and contour of the area as soon as the bandages are removed.
Does neck lift require an overnight hospital stay?
No, neck lift is performed as an outpatient procedure. After the surgery, the surgical staff will monitor you for a short period of time and then release you to recover in the comfort of your own home.
