Issues that Breast Augmentation Can Correct

Albany, Schenectady & Saratoga Springs Breast Enlargement

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed in Dr. Barach's Albany, NY office. It can correct a variety of aesthetic issues with your breasts, including:

Very Small or Nearly Absent Breasts

Extremely flat-chested women can benefit the most from breast augmentation, though more than one surgery may be necessary in order to achieve your aesthetic goals. Your first breast augmentation procedure should not be too large because the edges of the implants might show through your skin. If you desire further enlargement after your initial procedure, allow these implants to stretch your skin for about one year. Then, Schenectady plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Barach can replace them with larger breast implants.

Small to Moderate Breasts

If you have some breast tissue already, then you have a few more options available. You may choose the type and size of your implants, as well as the location of your incision.

Loss of Breast Tissue from Aging or Pregnancy

Hormonal changes that follow pregnancy and breastfeeding often cause breasts to shrink. The same kind of reduction often occurs due to aging. The loss of breast tissue is usually most noticeable in the upper part of the breasts. These partly empty sacs of skin at the top of your breasts can be filled to their previous size, or larger.

Sagging Breasts

This may result from aging or pregnancy, but it can also affect younger women as well. Breast implants usually improve mild sagging. Dr. Barach may also recommend a breast lift in conjunction with your breast augmentation procedure in order to more effectively correct severe sagging issues.

Asymmetrical Breasts

Women naturally have breasts that are slightly unequal in size and shape. Implants can significantly correct this imbalance if your breasts are noticeably out of proportion. If one of your breasts is practically nonexistent while your other is large and drooping, your correction may be more complicated to make. It may be necessary to augment one of your breasts while reducing or reshaping your other one.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a form of scar tissue that result from the deep layers of your skin getting torn during pregnancy or by extreme weight gain. You may be able to attain a slight improvement if your stretch marks are accompanied by loose skin. When you have excess skin, the wrinkling is more pronounced. By adding breast implants, the skin becomes tighter, pulling the stretch marks tighter as well. They will still be present, but they might be flatter and less visible than before. Of course, when your operation is over you'll also have larger breasts, which may be a factor in your decision.
